Dear ALL,

Backup Script for user backup not working since bprd.exe is not installed while installation on windows client

- Here i have configured flash user backup policy which is working fine when fired from java console

but not initiating backup from user script below is the script

D:\

cd Veritas\NetBackup\bin

bpbackup.exe -i -p DAKC_D_W_M_STBY_HBRABKPWEB1_Flash -s D_HBRABKPWEB1 -S dakcmstnetbkp

- While investigating tried to generate log with verbosity 5 but nothing generated for bprd since bprd.exe where not present in D:\veritas\netbackup\bin\ path

- Compared with other windows client & copied bprd.exe on host HBRABKPWEB1 but not working . shown below error when attempted run newly copied bprd.exe (double click on exe)

Please find attached image_01 Error

- Repaired & reinstalled but still not showing bprd in bin path where it supposed to be present (even attempted to install 6.5.0.4 )

PFA installation log file

Please suggest ASAP

1) bprd does not install on the Client.. it only needs to be there ONLY in the Master server , no other Place..

what is the errors that you are getting when you trigger the job from the Client?

what is the output of below command from the client?

bpclntcmd -pn

does the first entry in the server Registry key is Master server?

Raaavan's picture

By mistaken i compared binary with SAN media server

There is no error when job is triggered from client

bpclntcmd -pn

D:\Veritas\NetBackup\bin>bpclntcmd -pn
expecting response from server dakcmstnetbkp
HBRABKPWEB1 HBRABKPWEB1 10.226.31.212 52214

Yes first entry is master server in registry

Your issue seems to be exactly as this post?

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/user-script-not-executing

Are the 2 of you working together?

As per Nagalla's post - bprd ONLY runs on a master server.

Manual backup and restore requests are sent to bprd on the master server, where the master will examine the policy database and hand over the backup request to the policy manager (nbpem).

bpbackup -i can ONLY be run on a NBU SERVER.

You can add a SERVER entry for this client in the master's bp.conf (add entry to both cluster nodes) to allow manual backups with -i option for this client.

Ensure bprd log folder exist on the master server to troubleshoot client requests.

and also let us know if you recive any error when you trigger the script

Raaavan's picture

Yes Marianne is the same issue

bprd logs from master

11:57:54.009 [16030] <2> process_request: immediate backup request = 329199 159 root other NONE hbrabkpweb1 hbrabkpweb1 NONE DAKC_D_W_M_STBY_HBRABKPWEB1_Flash M_HBRABKPWEB1 0 0 13 0 en en en en en 0 0 -1 0 0 0 0

11:57:54.009 [16030] <2> process_request: HBRABKPWEB1 is not a valid server for manual backup request

@ Nagalla -- on client it directly go to the prompt without an error

So how can i configure this flash policy the way it can be triggered by user by running backup script

Marianne's picture

process_request: HBRABKPWEB1 is not a valid server for manual backup request

As per my previous post - add SERVER entry in master's bp.conf for this client:

SERVER = HBRABKPWEB1

Add to bottom of current server list in bp.conf and then forse the master to reread config:

bprdreq -rereadconfig
