"Unable to create selection list" error among others

Created: 17 Jun 2010 | 1 comment
I have just upgraded a backup server that was running BE11d to BE12.5
I have got it to sp3 and it is all up to date and now it is giving me this error when i try to create new backup jobs.
I have look on google for the problem and have found that either i have to make a change to the registry as stated here

As i am a bit hesitant to edit the registry on the server i came here looking for a bit of help.

Also when i am trying to run an exsisting job i get an error and the job will run for about 4 seconds and the fail.
"The global filename characters, * or ?, are entered incorretly or too many global filename characters are specified."

AND....

When i try to edit the selection list and save it i get
"native-0xafc source=Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server hr=0x80040e14 Could not find stored procedure 'SaveBackupScriptEntry'.
-536837662: :: -2147217900:Could not find stored procedure 'SaveBackupScriptEntry'."

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Thanks

well the workaround would be to create the following retry key Registry key or create backup job with less selections

  1. Click on Start then select Run
  2. Enter regedt32 then click OK
  3. Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Server]
  4. Create a new DWORD called = MaxRpcDatablockSize
  5. The value of the key should be = ffffffff
