Unable to create the utility items. Unable to scan...

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi everyone,

I'm facing a problem since last week.

My backup server is a Windows 2008 R2 with BE 2012 (v14)

We're not able to scan anymore, nor inventory tapes or unlock library. We always have the message : "Unable to create the utility items. Unknown reason : {0}."

Reboot the server doesn't help.

It seems to be related to the DB size which has reached 4Go.

When I launch BEutility and make a Compact Database, it allows me to make the operation I want.

Do you have an idea on how to resolve this problem ?

Thanks Jaydeep, it helps me understand the 4Gb limitation.

But I've deleted many job log and the size is still about 4Gb, just under.

Have made a shrink from SQL but always the same.

Even tried the SQL script from the 1st link !

How can I effectively reduce the database size ?

Try steps mentioned in this technote

If this does not help you, open a support case and see if minimum configuration can be coppied out of the existing database into a new blank database.

Edit: See if you can upgrade or setup a new instance of SQL Express 2008 R2 as the Database size limit has been increased to 10GB

I've already followed this technote. I allowed me to execute whatever I want with BE... for few days, and I get back the same error message when the DB grows.

So I have considered the upgrade to SQL 2008 R2 and I moved the DB.

That works fine, everything seems to be alright !

Thanks a lot for your help !
