Hi

I've recently upgrade my endpoint protection from 11.0.4 to 11.0.5. I build new deployement packages however the package will not depoly on Windows 7 64bit (final code). Is there anyther I can find a log one what the problem is. I don't see any error message in the event view. The clientremote.log is useless.

10/17/09 11:36:56 - Deployment Finished for: Enterprise

When I try running the setup local on the client machine, the only error I get is "An error occured while trying to install Symantec Endpoint Protection"

Hi

lets check the setup log e 3

start -run - type %temp%

look for SEP_INST.log

do a search for "return value 3"

paste 10 lines above and below of return value 3 , lets see why its rolling back

Please don't forget to mark your thread solved with whatever answer helped you : ) Rafeeq

You should look at the

You should look at the install log file. Here is how to find it:

5. Look at the install log
Start > Run > %temp% find the SEP_INST.LOG and look for value 3. If you find a value 3 then look at the lines above the error. What was occurring before the error was issued? You can then copy some of the lines from the error and search on them. This may lead you to an article to help troubleshoot that particular problem. There can be different failure points

This was pulled from our kb article "Failed Symantec Endpoint Protection Client Troubleshooting". It is found here: http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.... if you want to look at it further.

Hope this helps.

Grant-

Also you should post the lines above and below the "error code 3" back here and we can help you diagnose them : )

Also I'm assuming the log

Also I'm assuming the log should be under the administrator account %temp% and not my user account.

The Log will be on the

The Log will be on the Client and you can search you computer for SEP_INST.log.

Well...My recommendation would be
1. Make sure you are pushing 64 bit Client Package
2.Reboot the computer
then go to registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\
Check for PendingFileRenameOperations
and delete it. or change the value to 2

Push the package again or go to C:\Temp\Clt-Inst\SEP and run the setup.exe.

Intersting registery setting.

Intersting registery setting. There was a lot of stuff in it. There is no C:\temp\Clt-Inst\setup.exe in all I can see is C:\temp\Clt-Inst\vpremote.exe

Well that means its did not

Well that means its did not complete deployment may be..
Try deploying again ...and check if the package is getting copied to c:\temp\clt-inst\...
OR else copy the package to the local machine and try installing again.

Well I see the setup.exe

Well I see the setup.exe druing the deploy, however it does remove itself. I've tried the brute force by copy the exe from the server to the cilent, however all I see is the install processing, then it appears to rollback. However there still is no log file. Maybe I've haven't built the setup.exe correctly.  When I go the console and add the package, it's says it's invalid. I go to the Migration and Deployment Wizard, Deploy the client, specfiy a new name, select my options and 64-bit Client INstall package, single exe, and unattended. It appears to complete successfully.

SEP deploy VIA Manager

Did you manage to find a resolution to the SEPM not installing the Client to Window 7

I see all the install files going to the TEMP CLT-INSTon the client . About 132 MB then it clears and I have one VPremote file left

Have the same problem

When trying to deploy thru "Find Unmanaged Computers". deployment status says "Failed"

Server:
Running server 2008 R2
SEPM 11.0.5002.333

Clients tried:
Windows 7 x64
Windows 7 x86

Under the folder "C:\Windows\temp", the file "sep_inst.log" never appear as it did with the former SEP releases.

anyone having any ideas what causing this?

I still have the problem

I start with going to the SEP Manager, and under Admin/client installed packages, I select the SEP 11.0.5 for WIN64 and right click on it to export it. I then go to the Migration a deployment wizard and deply the setup.exe I just built. One the windows 7 cleint I see the instal start plus it asks me if I want to see the messages. the install progress, then rollsback. I can't find an log files as to what the error really is.

disabling UAC does nothing

Anybody come up with another solution for this?
I even get a successful prompt when I install to Win 7 64bit and 32bit machines.
But when I check the log it says that registry was unable to be edited.
However remote registry is turned on.
I am RDPing into the server to do these tasks, could that be the problem?

Install live update first seems to work!

Guclu is correct.

the SEP_INST.log told me something like "live update could not register" after I searched for the first return value 3 in the log file.

I went to: http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/home_homeoffice/p... and download liveupdate 3.3 32-bit (since 3.3 is for enterprise).
Installed live update on the win 7 machine.
Went into the c:\temp directory and ran the setup.exe
It installed and did not roll back.

After install it needs to be updated to show green status.

I used the liveupdate 3.3 32-bit on both 32 and 64 bit machine with 32 and 64 bit client install files and it works fine.
