Unable to determine location of the existing Ghost installation
Created: 26 Feb 2010 | Updated: 27 Aug 2010 | 1 comment
Hello,
We currently have GSS 11.5.0.2113 installed and have been having trouble using Liveupdate to take it to .2266. We did receive a link to download V2.5.1 the other day, but in attempting to install this update we are receiving the following message:
"Unable to determine location of the existing Ghost installation. You need to manually uninstall the existing verion of Ghost before installing the current version"
We have gone through add/remove programs and have also tried using the Norton Removal Tool, but so far have not had success. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
What you need to do is delete these folders:
1. Delete the following key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symantec Ghost
2. Browse to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Symantec\InstalledApps and delete the Ghost value.
3. Browse to HKCR\Installer\Products and find the GUID folder for Ghost. Just click on the top folder, review the information in the right pane for references to Symantec Ghost and delete any folders referring to Ghost.
4. Delete these keys:
HKLM\SYSTEM\{all controlset folders}\Services\NGSERVER
HKLM\SYSTEM\{all controlset folders}\Services\NGDBSERV
Then reboot the machine. This should allow installing the new version.
Thank you,
Randy
