Hi Everyone!

I'm unable to extract a PST files from a Ghost 11 Image, the PST file is greater than 1GB.

So when the PST is trying to extract, the file only extract a litle MB's of information and the status in the Ghost Explorer 11 says "Complete", any clue to correct that situation.

Regards,

Ironman82

Is it a spanned or single image?

Are you recovering from a single or spanned image? How big is the image and is it on an NTFS volume?
Have you refreshed Explorer in case it is not displaying an up-to-date file size after extraction?

The image it's spanned in 11

The image it's spanned in 11 files, it is in a NTSF volume and it's 20.8 GB the whole image.

What i need to do to update the Explorer??

I believe there was an issue

I believe there was an issue with extracting big files (not necessarily really big files) from images that were cloned from very fragmented hard drives. I think it was in 11.0 branch and it was resolved in one of the Live updates - have you run live update? Afternatively you can contact Symantec customer support for an update.

The Explorer is up-to-date

The Explorer is up-to-date and the hard drive was de-fragmented before to clone the image. I tried to run Live Update, but it says that it up-to-date.

What kind of update do you suggest??

I do not recall whether

I do not recall whether problem was in 11.0 or 11.5 branch - I just remember that there was a problem and I thought it was in 11.0 (GSS 2.0). What is your version of Ghost explorer?

My version is 11.0.0.1502,

My version is 11.0.0.1502, but after defrag my hard disks doesn't work, what else do you recommend??

EdT's picture

Fix the defrag problem

Defragging a hard disk should not affect their operation unless there is an underlying issue - such as defective sectors. Even then, the operating system should be able to handle this.
Check the system event logs for any reports of hard disk errors.
Also - a blanket statement that your hard disks don't work is not very helpful. In what way has their operation been affected?

There were two liveupdates to 1502

Solution

 Hi,

There were two liveupdates for 1502, and the latest is 1573.  It is good to run liveupdate and update the system since it contains many fixes. When you run liveupdate, it will download the full install package of 1573 to desktop and then you can upgrade the system.

If experience issues after defragmenting the hard disk, it was corrupted to start with. If I remember correct, the ghost explorer issue was introduced in 11.5 branch rather than 11.0. Once simple reason for this behavior could be not having enough space in the temp folder. When extracting files, it uses the temp folder and if there is no enough space it could fail.

Hi Kris, i was trying to run

Hi Kris, i was trying to run the Live Update, but my Ghost Explorer version says is up-to-date, what else do i need to run to upgrade my version??

The HDD has 181GB of free space and the temporary files folder has 80KB used, do you know if there's an limitation of the temp folder??

By the way, when i tried to copy or extract once again the PST, the explorer tried but at the end of the process it says the following legend "Unable to complete the requested operation because of either catastrophic media failure or corruption on the disk", but the HDD and the external HDD doesn't have any error.

Although i have a warning in the Event Viewer that says the next information:

Source: FTDisk
Event: 57
Description: The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur.

Any clue??

Hi, If you have 181GB in the

 Hi,

If you have 181GB in the hard disk that has temp folder (you can find the system's temp folder by running SET in cmd window. Check the temp and tmp paths), it should be good enough so the issue must be different.  How big is your image? If you can find a big enough volume or a hard disk, you can use Ghost32 to restore it and then copy the file. This will confirm if there is any kind of a corruption in the image too.

If the live update says it does not have any updates, probably it had already downloaded. Once the download is done, it will not download it again. You can check the desktop if the install package is already downloaded. Since it is a full upgrade, it will not install it automatically. If you still can't find it, the easiest way to get is just install standard tools in a different machine from original media and then running live update. Once the file is downloaded you can copy it to the Console machine to upgrade it.

Not flushing NTFS transaction

Not flushing NTFS transaction log is fine - it is a warning, not an error.

If you are running a genuine version of GSS then, as Krish said, Live update will download full update to your desktop and you can run it separately - not from the Ghost explorer!
