Unable to fetch logs
Created: 17 Dec 2010 | 9 comments
Hello all,
I'm having a problem with my logs. I cannot query the Device Control logs of the SEP Manager.
I can see the computer status logs and etc but cannot get the Device Control logs.
I am recieving this error as soon as I click the View button on the Logs page:
This query could not be processed for one of the following reasons:
1. The database query timed out. Try reducing the number of filters, or increasing the SQL Server query timeout value.
2. An unexpected error occurred. Try running the query again by using default filter values.
3. String encoding was possibly not UTF-8, and may result from copying and pasting data instead of typing data. Try typing data in the input fields.
Need your help on this :(

How many clients do you have
How many clients do you have in the network?
Have you tried to gather log from Monitor > Logs Tab (Log Type : Application and Device Control and Log Content: Device Control)? Does it work?

Have you upgraded to RU6
Have you upgraded to RU6 MP2?
Check for ODBC Connection if it is successful?
Test the ODBC connection.
Click Start> Control Panel
Open Administrator Tools
Double-click Data Sources (ODBC)
Select the System DSN tab
Double-click the SymantecEndpointSecurityDSN and go through the wizard to ensure the following settings:
Name: SymantecEndpointSecurityDSN
Description: <Anything>
Server: Servername\InstanceName (Can be blank as it is localized, otherwise specify default "sem5")
Login ID: dba
Password: <password>
Note: If the “Encrypt password” box on the Login tab is not checked, your password will be stored as plain text in the Windows registry.
Leave the default settings for the remaining items and click Finish
Click Test Data Source, and verify that it states "Success"
Click OK
Were there some changes done to the php.ini file? If yes check the following settings
Check the php.ini in C:\program files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Php
Open the php.ini and check the following settings and make sure its off.
display_errors = Off
display_startup_errors = Off
track_errors = Off
Thanks & Regards,
Mudit Kumar

php.ini modification didn't help.
I'm not sure if I should modify the tcpip.sys now. And I don't know how to do it...
Why can I fetch the logs of application control (where I have more than 15000 logs for 3 hours range) ?
Why am I getting this error for Device Control logs only?
Best regards,
Bekir Burak Durmaz
