Deployment Solution

Hi,

I'm new to Deployment Solution.

I've installed DS6.9 with SP4.

I'm able to install dagent on Win XP sp3 system and it is working fine.

The dagent is successfully installing on Windows 7. But, Altiris Deployment Agent Service is not running.

I'm getting the below error message when I'm trying to run the service manually.

"Windows Could not start the Altiris Deployment Agent service on Local Computer. Error1067: The Process Terminated Unexpectedly"

I've Checked the following this on Windows 7 System

1. Windows Firewall is OFF

2. UAC Settings is Never Notify

3. Windows Defender Service is Stopped & Disabled

4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\CommonFilesDir is C:\Program Files\Common Files

5. In Folder Options, Use Sharing Wizard is not selected

6. I'm able to ping Server from Client and Client from Server with both IP address and Host Name.

From Event Viewer - Application log I've found the following error:

Faulting Application Name: dagent.exe, version: 6.9.453.0

Exception Code: Oxc0000005

Please help us in resolving this issue.

I have not personally seen this issue and I do have a few Windows 7 x64 machines in my environment.  The below TECHNOTE seems to describe exactly what you are seeing, only from the Altiris Agent perspective.  You might run through and just verify that the registry entry isn't pointing to a network drive.  I know it's a long shot, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Dear Expert,

I have install the altiris agent on my laptop with win 7 OS. After that, I uninstall the altiris agent with Aexagentutil.exe /clean.

When I want to install again the altiris agent. There's always come up  message "uninstall Symantec Management Agent ? "  and installation stop.

I found below two error lines in c:\users\administrator\appdata\local\temp\AClient.log

I have searched in google With bootstrap.cpp:1118 - Error reading input file and gone through the following procedure

Step1: Copied aclient.inp from Deployment Server Share folder and replaced with c:\Program Files\Altiris\dagent\aclient.inp
Step2: restarted the Altiris Deployment Agent service manually.

We found that aclient,inp file is automatically deleting from the c:\Program Files\Altiris\dagent location and the service is getting stopped.

Today, I had deployed the dagent on E: drive on the same windows 7 system.
It is installed and communicating to the server successfully.
If any one knows what are the windows 7 security settings that are preventing dagent on C: drive, Kindly let me know.

Hi Vamsi,

When installing software on the C: drive, sometimes it needs to be run as an Administrator.  The fact that your aclient.inp was disappearing is actually normal.  It should mean that it grabbed those settings during the service startup.  You might check the service in "services.msc" and possibly change the "logon" tab to an administrative account instead of the System Account and see if that works.

The issue is still persisting after changing the Altiris Deployment Agent service Log on account from System account to Administrator.

Dynamic, aclient.cfg files are not present at C:\Program Files\Altiris\DAgent.

Total 8 files only there instead of 10 files

I know I escalated this to Support, not sure if anyone ever got back to you, but you might be better off calling support (if you still have an active AUP), you might get a little more help.  If you do go that route, please post the final fix here for others to benefit.
