While adding a new Site Server, we are unable to at Package service to the server.

In the Symantec Management Console, in the Settings menu, click Notification Server > Site Server Settings.

The check box is grayed out but task service gets installed.

What OS are you installing on?  Server 2008 requires some added tweaks.

Do you have maintenance windows setup?  It will not install if it is in a maintenance window

I found that if I had everything set up correctly and it did not install, that I was impatient and I needed to give it a day to work itself out.  Also did you check to see if it is installed from the task server itself?  In my impatience I managed to confuse the system and had it installed on the task server but not showing on the SMP.    There were manual uninstall instructions for the package server but my links are no longer good.

    Hi,

In my case, it was package server prerequisites which were missing. Please make sure that package server prerequisites (IIS, .Net framework 3.5 SP1) are in place, send the inventory and then check.

Also make sure that when adding IIS, that you set the default to Classic .NET App Pool, else you might struggle getting things to work

We had the same problem when migrating some of our old 2003 site servers, they were missing the prerequisits as Vineet points out.

After adding the prereqs it took the NS consol 5min - 2 hours to notice this and the checkbox became clickable (reboot didnt seem to shorten the time).

I also had to reinstall the agent on one server after adding the prereq.

I am also having issues with getting the package service working. I have checked the prerequisites and they are fine. I just cannot get the tick box to become un grayed out. Does anyone have other suggestions on what to look for next?

I have been playing around with this by removing the IIS6 components and installing them again with no joy. I have also now lost my main NS server as a site server. This also happended in my beta test and could never get it reinstalled.

Kamino, make sure that you have all the pre-requisites done, you need to make sure that you have .NET, IIS etc installed, have a look at the User Guide to go through your setup and then give the machine a restart and you should be able to install the Package Components.

I had this problem a few months back and thats what got me working.

Failing that.. give the guys at Symantec a call.. if you're lucky (very lucky) someone from the US will pick it up and deal with it

vharma, I have reinstalled the whole of the SMP so now got my site server is back. I have the package server tab showing in the management agent but not appearing as a package service in the console. I have checked and double cheked that I have all the prerequisites and now am at a loss. Time to call support.
