    What OS are you trying to install on?

    From the log:

    ScriptGen: ShowServiceProgress() script execution failed.
    ScriptGen: ShowServiceProgress() reset script failure event.
    ScriptGen: ShowServiceProgress() is returning an error (so close to the end!)
    CustomAction ShowServiceProgress returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)
    Action ended 2:03:41: InstallFinalize. Return value 3.

    Based on the log, I see you're using the latest version of SEP - 12.1.6 MP4 - which is good.

    I can see some mention of Microsoft Forefront and also Microsoft Windows Defender.

    Please disable/uninstall both of them, reboot and try again.

    Do you have administrator rights on this machine?

    Brain,

    Yes i do have admin privileges on this machine as i am domain admin. I also tried installing with local default admin id but stil same issue. I observed that in event viewer it says unable to contact AD DS. when i run gpupdate it fails for computer policy and says access denied.

    How do i disable windows defender ? Option is greyed out for tools menu.

    No, he meant disabling the Windows Defender Service in there.

    I tried disabling service and also tried to disable windows defender using gpedit.msc but still unable to install. What log is saying ? What is the issue ?

    Log throws a generic error code.

    What if you tried installing with only the core components? If that suceeds then add other components that you need.

    Bhasu,

    what you have shared is SEP_inst.log, what I am looking for is Sis_inst.log it is located in the following location
