  • 1.  Unable to obtain virus definition from server 2003 and 2008 automatically

We are using Symantec Antivirus Corporation Edition 10.2.4. SSC and Antivirus Server are both installed on a Windows 2000 pro. computer. Found that the following managed computers cannot be updated virus definition automatically. 1. Server 2003R2 64bit, firewall disabled 2. Server 2008R2 64bit, firewall enabled (symantec antivirus and symantec email were added in allow to communicate through firewall in 'Domain field' after installed) If I click to update virus definition to above computers manually from SSC, both can be updated successfully. How to configure that both Server can obtain virus definiton automatically? or any setup not do yet? Thanks.

64 bit client is not supported in SAV for updates.Enable Liveupdate on these clients and when they connect to internet they will download definition.

If not, use internal Liveupdate server to provide the updates.

    Hi Pleo,

Pete is correct - VDTM (the standard method for AV definition distribution in SAV 10) cannot function in 64-bit platforms.  Those SAV 10.2 clients will need to use LiveUpdate.

Here are the official articles on the subject, with recommendations:

Supported features of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition on 64-bit editions of Windows
    (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2003021316524048)
Managing 64-bit clients with Symantec System Center
    (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2006010609164848)

I recommend setting up a LU schedule on those two machines and ensuring there is access eithwr to the Internet LU servers or to an internal LUA 2.x or LUAU 1.x server.  Please let the forum know if there's any additional advice needed!

    Thanks and best regards,
