This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi

Unable to open items in shared mailboxes in an environment where more than one vault site is in use.

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH43030

We've had this issue in our environment, and the fix referenced in the article (correcting the Web Application URL in the Desktop policy) tested fine.

However, the users that need to retrieve the items are not enrolled in EV, even though they have the EV add-in installed. Given the provisioning task needs to run to update the Desktop policy, I am unsure how these users will get the changed Desktop policy.

The error the end users sees when trying to open the item is "the web server is available, but is not correctly configured for Enterprise Vault"

I had the same error and it was resolved by correcting the Desktop policy, but I am enrolled in archiving and these users are not.

Thanks

they wont get the hidden message in their mailbox directing them to the proper webapp url if they're not enabled. what if you created a no archiving policy, put these users in it, and enabled them?

Just to add what andy said, you can disable them right after, they will still get the policies updated and the corrected URL's and such, but they won't have their mailboxes archived or the ability to archive messages manually etc

Thanks for both suggestions, will go with the later as it means we don't need another policy. So correct the URL, enable the users, run the provisioning tasks, then disable the users?

thanks

No problems, but this one belongs to andy, can you mark his as the solution please? :)

Done. For safety, will leave the new provisioning group around but with "archive mailboxes in this provisioning group" unchcked and the new policy, but will disable the users, to ensure the hidden message doesn't get removed.
