  • 1.  Unable to perform Content search on PGP emails in Outlook

    Hi,

A number of users have recently had PGP 10.1 for Windows installed on their Windows XP SP3 machines. Their PGP emails are received within Outlook 2003 SP3. Their mailboxes are housed on Exchange 2003 servers

The users are finding that they are unable to search on the content of encrypted emails within Outlook. For example they search for a name within the body of the emails. Normally when they do a search like this with non encrypted emails, Outlook build up an index of emails within a search window. When the same search is performed on encrypted emails, nothing is returned in the search window

is this by design or is there a way to get around this?

    Thanks

    Saikat

    Hi Saikat,

This is intended, and there are two main reasons.
One is that the Outlook performance would be negatively impacted and the other is that the search index file would contain unencrypted parts of the messages.

If required, you can contact the Technical Support for a workaround which should work. However, this needs the key to be unlocked, thus the passphrase should be cached or an SKM key should be used.
