Unable to read block hashes from the Recovery Solution Server

Created: 31 Oct 2008 • Updated: 08 Oct 2010 | 8 comments

I'm getting "Unable to read block hashes from the Recovery Solution Server" on RS clients (RS 6.2 SP2, agent v 6.2.2760).

I've followed the directions per KB 29245 (https://kb.altiris.com/display....asp?aid=29245&n=1&s=) with no success. The clients are still reporting the event ID 9 and 21.

Ideas?

Trevor,

What client-side hotfixes do you have installed? You definitely want to insatll HF15 (agent-side hotfix) and possibly several others, on the server side HF19 is critical. You can see all the RS 6.2 SP2 hotfixes here:

AKB36188.

I don't have any.

How do I deploy the hotfixes to all clients? Does it require a reboot of the client?

Thanks!

After applying HF19, then dropping the Data1.cabs in for HF15 and doing an RS reinstall (should I have done upgrade?), I can no longer use RS from this Server 2008 x64 box (haven't tested any other platform yet). The agent does not show in the tasktray, even though the policy is set to enable it. Also, I cannot go into the RS Agent Options from the client (nothing happens) nor can I successfully accelerate a job from the server (stays stuck on "Starting").

Yes, you wanted to do a reinstall (AgentSetup.exe /reinstall) of the agent, then restart. Did you get the x64 cabs for certain? Any Event Viewer errors from Recovery Agent or from Windows Installer when the reinstall event ran? What file versions show under Program Files\Altiris\Recovery Solution Agent? You can set the view to Details, then right-click the Name column and choose "More...", then scroll down to get the "File Version" column added so you can look at all the RS Agent file versions.

Uhmm....I'm not 100% positive on this, but I don't believe Server 2008 is a supported client platform for Recovery Agent (or for RS Server for matter!).

Yes, the x64 cabs are obviously larger.

No errors in the Application log. The usual 3010 (restart required) for the agent, which was done.

These are the only files that are .15 now:

Aexcmd.exe

Aexrsaview.exe

Aexrscfg.dll

Dunagent.exe

LDelData.exe

Ndmlogon.dll

RSacmd.exe

All the others are still .0. I noticed that at first but I also saw that Altiris was going to "do their best" at versioning the files.

Also, I put the x86 Data1.cab in the Recovery Solution\Server\Agent\Install and \Package directories, not the x64 version (that Data1.cab went into the correct NSCap folder).

I extracted the x64 Data1.cab to my local machine to check the file version, there are .15 files that were definately not updated on my local machine.

Ok, installed it on a 32bit Server 2003 SP2 system. I'm still getting the same errors that are present in my original post on the client. The files were updated with one exception:

AeXCredProvider.dll

That file remains at .0 on the machine after a reinstall and reboot.

I downloaded the x64 zip file and simply copy the files into the recovery solution agent directory on my server 08 x64 client, rebooted, and then it prompted me to re-register which I did. Still getting the errors, though.

Trevor,
Did you ever find a resolution to this?  Not sure why I didn't mention it before, but I'm almost positive that RS 6.2 SP2 was not supported on Server 2008 x64...
