as can be seen from the following screenshot (archive explorer) the date range is not up to date ?

What should I do to make sure that the archived email is always recent and updated ?

The EVJournal mailbox is the Journaling mailbox for all of the Exchange Server email so I assume that any email in and out of the company is stored in there and then archived by EV.

Yes, as long as Exchange is configured to journal everyone all the mail is going to be archived.

What you are seeing there is just the index volumes and they are not necessarily in order sorted by date.  If you look at the volume underneath the one highlighted the date range goes to April 1, 2013.

Tony, thank for the quick clarification, so in this case assuming that the EV journaling archive task work successfully, then the archiving date range should be updated to the most recent ?

and when I open the EV Journal mailbox from the Outlook client, what should I expect ?

When you look at the journal mailbox via Outlook you should expect it to be relatively empty.  Depending on how you have your safety copy strategy you might have some items pending or not.

If archiving isn't occurring then you will see a build up of messages with the message class of IPM.Note in the Exchange Journal Mailbox.  A better way to monitor the Exchange Journal mailbox would be to either use EVOM (EV Operations Manager) or use your own powershell script to get the mailbox item count of the journal mailbox.  But yes, there should be an index volume with todays date on it.

HTH,

Many thanks for the advice Tony.

the ideal condition is that the Journal mailbox must contains the emails (unread and not archived) since the last archiving task run.

Where can I install EVOM ? does EV 9.0.4 R1 comes with that features out of the box ?

EVOM is part of the base install.  You can see if it has been configured by trying to access it via Internet Explorer:

http://host_ipaddress/MonitoringWebApp/default.aspx

If that fails you will need to run the configuration:

Running the Enterprise Vault Operations Manager Configuration utility

You will want to have a Monitoring user created, this is just a domain account used by EV.

Yes I can see the page now only from within the Server Remote Desktop session using http://localhost/.....

the Enterprise Vault monitoring section looks great with all of the green checkboxes

while the Exchange Server Monitoring got critical issues in Store, Above Maximum Size and the Days Since Last backup.
