Unable to retrieve large files archived by EV 9 ?

Created: 28 Feb 2013 • Updated: 04 Mar 2013 | 12 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi,

In my file server archived by EV 9.0.4 R1, I cannot recall / retrieve the archived files greater than 10 MB ?

I can get the README.txt and the setup.ini file, but when I tried to copy the whole directory containing multiple big files larger than 100 MB, it just failed ?

where can I troubleshoot this issue ?

Thanks

It may not be the size but can be because of the recall limit , you might be reaching the default limit.

Many thanks Rahul,

Yes it is affecting the exact product version that I'm using now, the default value is:

RecallLimitMaxRecalls = 20
RecallLimitTimeInterval = 10

shall I increase it to be

RecallLimitMaxRecalls = 200
RecallLimitTimeInterval = 100

Kind regards,

Refer the following document  http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH47861

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\KVS\Enterprise Vault\FSA\PlaceholderService\RecallLimitMaxRecalls

  • The initial value is 20.
  • The effective values range from 0-100 (decimal), settings above 100 will result in the default value of 20 being used.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\KVS\Enterprise Vault\FSA\PlaceholderService\RecallLimitTimeInterval

  • The initial value is 10 (seconds).
  • The lowest value EV will use is 1, values of up to 60 can be used (decimal)

If you are restoring using the admin account you consider implementing the following registry

BypassRecallLimitsForAdmins controls whether the recall limits apply to members of the local Administrators group on the server that is running the Placeholder Service. Setting to 1 will allow members of local admins to recall files without restriction.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\KVS\Enterprise Vault\FSA\PlaceholderService\BypassRecallLimitsForAdmins

0 - (Default) Recall limits apply to administrators

1 - There are no recall limits for administrators

Note: Once the registry changes are complete, restart the Enterprise Vault Placeholder Service for the changes to take effect.

Rahul,

Do I need to do that in the file servers or in the EV server itself ?

You need to create this registries on the file server where you have the placeholder service running.

You may also need to set RecallLimitTimeInterval to 1 which is the lowest setting it can be in the same registry location.

It may have to do with the large file being recalled and having an issue.  Do we see events in the EV Event Viewer log on either the file server or EV server?

hi PLaudone,

in which server shouldI search and change this registry values ?

EV server or in the File server where the FSA agent is installed ?

Can you check if Event 20539 has been logged on File Server? If yes then its due to IIS file size restriction. Users can still restore those files from Archive Explorer.

Thanks for the reply Arjun,

where is File explorer for fle server (FSA) ?

I know how to retrieve email from the EV website internally but not a large files in multiple directory structures.

It is the same url, so http://evserver/enterprisevault/ArchiveExplorerUI.asp where evserver is the alias for your EV server.

All archives you have permission on will show in the left pane.

Yes, thanks to all, in the mean time users can restore the file into the same location of the place holder through the ArchiveExplorer web console.
