Unable to run catalog

Hi all

We are attempting to do a disaster recover test; we are now in our third week of this without any success at all...

Hypothetically; all that is left of our system is our offsite backup server and an 2008 R2 server to recover to.
I have finally managed to install Backup Exec and identify the hard drives containing the backed up data.
I have managed to run the inventory operation which now lists all of the files.
But the catalog operation fails with the following:

Error category    : Backup Media ErrorsError             : e0000900 - The requested media is not listed in the media index and could not be mounted. To add the media's catalog information to the disk-based catalogs, run an inventory operation on the media and resubmit the Catalog operation.
For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-2304.

The information in the link is not that helpful and when I tried the solution it made things worse so I have had to go back to square one and start again.

Can anyone help with this one?

Thanks

Hi fred,

Have you checked out the links below?

Might want to look into rebuilding the catalogs as per the TN below:

Thanks!

Thanks Craig

The second option seems to be doing the trick but, as per document, it still shows as failed which is a little disconcerting.
I have 3 devices with over 300 B2D files in each, do I really have to run the catalog operation against each one?

Thanks again.

You can try selecting a group of them and then running the Catalog job.

Thanks Craig

I tried this, I had to confirm each job individually but at least its a bot faster.
Each catalog operation takes just over 2 and a half minutes each to run.
I have approaching 1000 B2D files; that means I have a lead time of over 40 hours before I can start restoring files!!!

There must be a better way?

Thanks

Unless you have a CASO environment where you can replicate or centralise your catalogs on the CASO, you've got to do this on the DR media server in order to update that server's BEDB with the information contained in the B2D files.

Thanks!
