  • 1.  Unable to run Unix Commands (to OS X) from Console

    Posted Jul 24, 2014 02:16 PM

We upgraded to 7.5 SP1 more than a month ago and most things have gone OK. Today, however, we tried sending a few scripts to our Macs and they are all failing. These are scripts that we've run before the upgrade and they're not complex at all. The error we are now getting is "

The interpretor for "UNIX Script" is not installed, or has not been added to the command path.

Does anyone know what this might mean and how we can fix it? I haven't tried Perl or AppleScript yet but I'm going to test those next I suppose.

Maybe you're executing a specific type of script there, therefore you need to use "AppleScript" script task type for MacOS

No, we're simply running a Unix Script so it should go fine. I haven't tried an AppleScript yet but will do that a little later and will post if that too throws an error.

    Hi,

You see this message on console side? Can you check  if script task was sent to client ? (on client execute 'aex-cta list' command to see tasks)

Is problem occur only with upgraded tasks? If you create new script task - will it be executed successfully?

Also it will be nice to get client and server logs.(server logs should be collected on time when you create task and when you run task on clinet)

    Thanks,

The job never makes it to the client and unfortunately there are no errors on the server either.

Just tried with AppleScript and that too gave the same or similar error:

The interpretor for "AppleScript" is not installed, or has not been added to the command path.

    Hi,

Can you make sure if target computer is really mac osx ?

I have seen such message when trying to launch unix/apple etc. script on windows machine.

Double click on failed task (Under Script Details there is Task Status window with task list). On new window right click on computer and choose view computer - make sure it is really osx and not a windows machine

    Thanks,

Yeah, I was just going to post that it seems the target machines tested are not Macs afterall! We just discovered that this morning. Sometimes its the simplest things that we overlook and now the egg is sliding off our faces....
