I am unable to select any of my remote servers that I want to backup. WhenI put select the server, I saw this message:Selection of this item is disabled. You are not authorized to access thisitem,a license key for the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers isnot installed on the machine, or the remote agent is old or incompatible.I did try to install the remote agent onto the remote computer from the RANT32folder. I'm not sure why I still can't select.Any help is grateful!Chong

What Agent license are you reffering to? Ihave a license key to install the software from the media. My understandingis that the agent are needed for MS Exchange server, SQL server, Oracle andso on but not for backup remote servers. Am I wrong or what? When I clickon Help/About and click on the License Information, I did see the optionBackup Exec for Windows Servers have a Yes on License and Insalled. Am Isuppose to have more than just this installed?Again, thanks!Chong

At one time Workstation OSs alwo required the agnet, but you did not have to pay for it.As you have discovered, you can install the RA32 anywhere, but unless you purchase a serial, BEWS will not connect to it.

What's the problem?Chong

In addition :

The Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent (Remote Agent) is installed as a separate, add-on component that must be used for the backup and restore of remote Windows resources.

In case, the remote machine is running on a Server Operating System, such as Win NT Server, Win2K Server etc, then the remote agent license needs to be purchased and registered with the Media Server ( BEWS system).

On the other hand, license is not required for remote systems running Desktop Operating System, such as Win NT WkStn, W2K Pro etc. but remote agent component should be installed and running on them.

If this does not help, specify what exact error you are facing during RAWS installation.
