Unable to send notification mail from BE v2010

Created: 04 Nov 2010 | 3 comments

We are using BE v2010 on Windows Server 2003 Std.

For backup portion, there is no problem, however, unable to

send notification mails from BE. I have configured SMTP, recipient

e-mail address.

When I try to send a test mail from the server, a message says

it sent out successfully tho, we never received those mails.

I have checked the SMTP log on our Exchange Server & found

out that the BE Server is not sending a complete SMTP command

to our Exchange Server.

here is the SMTP log on our exchange server.

2010-11-04 20:57:59 "IP Address" BE01 SMTPSVC1 EX01 "IP Address" 0 EHLO - +MEC-BE01 250 0 321 13 0 SMTP - - - -
2010-11-04 20:57:59 "IP Address" BE01 SMTPSVC1 EX01 "IP Address" 0 QUIT - MEC-BE01 240 0 76 10 0 SMTP - - - -

the BE server is actually communicating with our Exchange server

tho, since incomplete command it sends, never sends out notification mail...

Do you have any idea??

Please kindly let me know.

Thank you very much in advance.

First of all I would like  you to test the SMTP Notification using Telnet. Please follow the technote " " for the same.

If this test fails then its the issue with SMTP. If the test is successfull then you can check the following technotes for further troubleshooting: : SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) notifications are configured and enabled within Backup Exec for Windows Server (BEWS) or Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR) but notifications are not received after a job runs. : Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) email notifications cannot be sent if Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise is installed on the SMTP server. : Notifications configured to be sent with SMTP mail in Backup Exec are not being sent.

Hope this piece of Information Helps you... and if it does then mark this response as Solution....!!!

Hello Sush...

Thank you very much for your kind suggestions.

I have looked the links and most of them, i've already double checked.

However, after disabling SMTP Authentication, it worked. If I re-enable it,

it doesn't, even tho using administrator account with correct password...

Anyway, it is working now.

Thank you very much.
