Unable to start "Altiris service"
Hi
I am trying to install Server Management Suite, and installation fails with a critical error.
I have tracked it down to be an issue, that "Altiris Service" remains in "Starting" state forever. My observations are that during installation AIM tries to restart this particular service and fails to do so, because it never gets past "Starting" state.
Has anyone else encountered a similar issue like this? Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks
What is your configuration?
Are you installing Altiris v6 or v7? What is your server version (64bit or 2008 in general will not install)? Also the .net version can cause issues with the v7 (SIM) installer. You mention AIM, so I'm guessing you are trying to do v6.

I am installing Altiris
I am installing Altiris v7(all version numbers start like 7.x.xxxx)
OS is Windows 2003 Server 32-bits.
In "Add/Remove programms" I see 3 versions of .NET frameworks - 2.0; 3.0 and 3.5;
In my opinion this issue is not as much related with Installation manager, but rather with the "Altiris Service" which does not start.
Here is the relevant Log, when I try to start "Altiris service" manually from Services:

HI, we have a similar error.
HI, we have a similar error. Our installation hangs on 64% whuile configuring task manager.
I have cancelled it, but the services are running ok. While resuming the install process, it comes up with Crtical Error.
Can anyone give a hand?
Many Thanks,
Ross.
Can you check the Altiris log files on the server?
It's not really a similar error, so the log files help troubleshoot the issue.

Well, here is a log sample from the logViewer. I have checked and it should have the permissions required.

Still hungs, even after rerunning the installation.
Any advise?
Many thanks in advance!
IIS Locked down?
From these logs it looks like the Request Policies is failing due to the URL being requested is requiring authentication.
Check in IIS under the following virtual directory(/Altiris/NS/Agent) that Anonymous access is enabled.
The second error is related to the Altiris Agent not having received a GUID from the Altiris Server most likely due to the previous error.
Many thanks for the quick
Many thanks for the quick reply, but we have already fixed it. Seems that IE was using a proxy, that was set as a script. While our web site account did not have rights to 'read and execute scripts', it could not connect to the Symantec server for the items configurations. At least it worked after that ;) All fine now.
Once again, many thanks!
