Deployment Solution

All,

We have a single AD domain with about 500+ users. I am trying to acquire a RIP of MS Office 2007 (VolLic/Pro Plus)... as the RIP for Office 2003 was really successful. That said, I can capture the RIP and install the application and use it just fine. HOWEVER,<insert drum roll>, I CANNOT UNINSTALL THE Office 2007 (VolLic/Pro Plus) application.

Can anyone anywhere provide any information on how to resolve this issue?

I also wanted to let you know that we are not getting an error message on the client machine. The Office 2007 splash page simply appears and the (in about 2 seconds) disappears.

I would suggest setting up an admin share and doing a silent install of Office 2007. Its easy to setup and shouldn't give you the problems that the RIP is giving you. RapidInstall is kind of an outdated technology at this point. I've never had really good results with RIPs and large installs like Office. All my installs are silent or scripted installs.

Run the office setup with the /admin option to create an administrative install. It will create an new .msi file. Use that instead of the RIP package. I normally only use RIP (which is nothing else then a install capture) only if the software poduct doesn't have a msi installer.

I have been down the path of the OCT before but abandond it because the MS Bootstraper calls several MSI for the OFFICE Pro Plus suite. That said, the only thing I have seen the OCT do is create an MSP file that I have to stick in the admin folder. This is useless ... because I want to be able to use Altiris to deploy the package.

I am VERY NEW to this technology ... in fact ... I am usually a Sys Admin ... so can we expand on this please. :)

With Office 2007 all you need to do is run setup.exe /admin to create the silent install. Once you have that create a job that runs setup.exe and it will silently install.
Try doing a Google search for deploying Office 2007 and you will find plenty of information.

 Thanks ... I am going to try having the Altiris DS run a script to execute the installation. We'll see what happens. I will post all results here. :)

I used the OCT and then used Altiris DS to copy and then execute the setup.exe /adminfile test.msp installation. It has gone quite well. However, I am still trying to get rid of the last two items that pop up ... "using online <crap>"  and whether or not to use online office updates. Hopefully I can get rid of that ... and then I am good to go.
