    Hello.

I have some problem to install the new software to my 83xx mail security appliance.

I log in with putty (SSh) and type update install. Then i get this:

Performing a software update will reboot your appliance.
Are you sure you wish to proceed?  [N/y]: y

Then i type watch update.log and i see this:

Does anyone have a solution for me?

    Thanks

No i still have this problem. We are now on version 7.5.0-26 and i have tried to update to version 7.6.0-6 , 7.6.1-3 , 7.6.1-7 and 7.6.1-14. I get the same error on each update.

So i dont know what to do. Iam thinking about to take a backup of my settings and maby reinstall the appliance to see if that works. But i hope i can find a solution before i do that.

I would just take a backup and then download the most recent version, burn it to CD and apply it that way.

It only takes around 10-15 minutes and you have a higher level of confidence in the media source and install files.

I usually create a backup of the current SBG then bring up a VMware version to ensure that the backup restores successfully.

I keep a VMware SBG or two online at all times and use it with test domains all the time.

    cheers

Thank you. I tried that, but my backup does no restore on the vmware...

But is there any problem with running this on vmware? I think i just can set up a new server on ESX and set it up with the same settings that are on the physical box. Then i can just shutdown the old one and let the vmware server take over.

Rather than try and build your own, you can easily download the latest version of the SBG virtual edition (7.7) from the VMWare Appliance marketplace (search for Symantec).

Just use your existing license file (.slf) with the VM.

    hope that helps.
