Deployment Solution

Hi there

We are and have been using RapiDeploy successfully for quite some time now, but are looking at upgrading to DS7.5, and have been advised the RapiDeploy is no longer supported in 7.5 (although it may still be there?) So we are attempting to move to using Ghost.

This is where the problems begin. I have created a new "Deploy Image" using the previously captured ghost image (using Altiris)

When I boot a computer into WinPE and run this task, the computer gets the task, Ghost opens, then just sits there with the about screen open, and goes no further. As per attached screen shot (capture.png)

I have also attached a sanitized version of a "ClientImageDeploy.log" from the last test client.

I had this very same problem before. I deleted the deploy image task and created a new one, then it started working.

As far as I know, Altiris DS 7.1 doesn't support simply replacing rdeploy image with a ghost image in a task.

Give it a try. Hope this helps.

Probably there is something wrong with your ghost image file. Test it first.

Did you try to manually(use command line) deploy it with Ghost in WinPE? If you can get it successfully deployed by using command line in WinPE, at least we would know the image is OK, and then we can look for issues from somewhere else.

If i manualy map a drive to the location and use the Ghost image, it does deploy and work correctly.

How about create a whole new deploy job instead of only a brand new task?

Have also done this, we created a new task, then created a new deploy job, tested after each step, still no luck.

I think you might need to create a support case and seek help from Symantec engineers. That's the fastest way to get solution according to my experience. They are very helpful most of the time.

personally i wouldn't switch from rdeploy to ghost - to me that's a step backwards.  instead consider switching to WMI and ImageX.  then you can use DISM to inject updates and make image maintenance much easier in the future.
