Unattend_Default_Wind7.xml vs Unattend_Inventory_Wind7?

Created: 08 Nov 2012 • Updated: 08 Nov 2012

With a scripted OS install, the settings are set to "Use default configuration".  I have traced this default configuration back to:

\NSCap\bin\Win32\X86\Deployment\SOI\AnswerFile

And I see that there are four files related to Windows 7, and they are:

Unattend_Default_Wind7.xml
Unattend_Default_Wind7_SP1.xml
Unattend_Inventory_Wind7.xml
Unattend_Inventory_Wind7_SP1.xml

Now I assume it is using the one tagged Default, but what are the two Inventory files used for?

Here is what I am wanting to do to the default config file:

I want the Windows installation to automatically assign a Computer Name, and not prompt for the name (which defaults to PC).  For intsance, I want it to assign the computers serial number as the name.  When I try to manually add this, the install winds up error out.  Here is what I have so far in the specialize phase:

    <settings pass="specialize">
        <component name="Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup" processorArchitecture="@ProcessArchitecture" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
            <RunSynchronous>
                <RunSynchronousCommand wcm:action="add">
                    <Order>1</Order>
                    <Path>net user administrator /active:yes</Path>
                </RunSynchronousCommand>
            </RunSynchronous>
<ProductKey>@license</ProductKey>
<ComputerName>%COMPNAME%</ComputerName>
                        @Display
</component>
</settings>

Now I'm sure it is %COMPNAME% that is throwing it off.  What can I substitute there instead?

Thank you for the help.
