  • 1.  Unattended installation/update of client version

    Posted Dec 09, 2013 01:58 PM

    Hi all,

I have a lot of clients that still have SEP version 12.1.1 and we are now at 12.1.3. We have deepfreeze on all our machines so it's hard to update them during the day while students are using them. Is there anyway to have symantec push out the updated client version without some one at the PC? I can push them from our symantec server but I wanted to do this at night when nobody is here. Any information will be helpful. Were also using a GUP so this would help with that too.

    Thanks!!!!

You have the ability to set a schedule to push out the clients. Have you checked that option out? This KBA should be of some use:

Do the PCs need to be logged into for this to work?

Should not need to be. I've tested this many times and they will update without anyone logged in. They only need to be able to contact the SEPM based on its heartbeat setting.

The client definition update would happen whoever user has logged in according to there heartbeat Interval Set

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

In case you are not awere SEP 12.1 RU4 is the latest release.

You should plan to upgrade to SEP 12.1 RU4 insteasd of SEP 12.1 RU3.

Autoupdate can update the SEP client version though anyone is not logged in.

Note: You must test the AutoUpgrade process before you attempt to upgrade a large number of clients in your production network. If you do not have a test network, you can create a test group. You can add a few non-critical clients to the test group and upgrade them by using AutoUpgrade. You can confirm the upgrade completed successfully by verifying the version number of the client software that appears in the About dialog box.

It's always recommended to have Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and SEP clients on the same version.

I haven't been sent anything about upgrading to 12.1.4. Not sure where to get the new upgrade either.

I do have a test group that I ran last night. Does anybody know if the clients can upgrade while frozen with deep freeze? Apparently they upgraded versions last night and were frozen. Half of clients upgraded but the other half did not. I restarted the ones that did upgrade and they still had the upgraded version on them.

You can grab the upgrade using your serial number from here:

As for Deepfreeze and Symantec, see this thread here as it appears to right in line with your question:

Thank you for that info. I took a look at the deepfreeze and symantec page and I believe this is for the LiveUpdates.
