Underused tapes in Media Set

This issue has been solved. See solution.
I have a Media Set of tapes in my Backup Exec 11d, we're using 72Gb tapes buy they all show up as 36.5Gb tapes in the media set.
Any have any idea how to correct this. The backups are maxing out the tapes at 36.5Gbs even though there is more space, just that the whole tape isn't being used.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of drive do you have?
What kind of media are you using?
If the tapes are listed as 36/72GB, this means that the capacity os 36 GB native, 72GB compressed at 2:1
Do you have hardware compression enabled?
What are you backing up. Some data will not compress, others may compress very well

I never managed the tapes so I failed to take note of the little asterix next to the tape labels indicating that they assume a 2:1 compresion ration. Right now with our backups, were getting around 1.5:1 compression, in some cases as low as 1.38:1 compression.
We're using an HP drive with HP DAT 72 4mm tapes.
Looks like we need new tapes.
Thanks for the help.
