    Posted Feb 05, 2014 11:48 AM

    Hello

This was working fine now all of a sudden stopped working. When I try to use the SEPM (version 12 installed on Win Svr 2012) I get 'unexpected server error'. If I try to access the web console, I get this:

    HTTP Status 404 - /console/apps/sepm

    type Status report

    message /console/apps/sepm

description The requested resource is not available.

    Apache Tomcat/7.0.32

    Logs attached.

    Please help.

    James

Before you could try anything can you run the management server config wizard and try once..

checked the catalina file and found that its not able to connect to db

rror updating database. Cause: org.springframework.jdbc.CannotGetJdbcConnectionException: Could not get JDBC Connection; nested exception is org.apache.commons.dbcp.SQLNestedException: Cannot create PoolableConnectionFactory (Network error IOException: Connection refused: connect)

    Follow this document

SEPM login fail with error "Failed to connect to Server" pop up

    To reconfigure the management server

    1. To reconfigure the management server, click Start > All Programs > Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager > Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Tools > Management Server Configuration Wizard.

Can't find that. Remember I'm on Windows Server 2012 so I don't have a traditional start menu.

Edit - found it in the bin folder: sca.bat

I've filled in the correct information on the database server authentication step of the config wizard, but when I click next nothing happens. No message or anything. The next button goes grey for a second then allows me to click it again.

SEP Shortcuts of Database Backup and Restore along with Management Server Configuration Wizard is Missing from All Programs list.

I figured out how to run it on 2012 but I'm facing a new problem now.

I've filled in the correct information on the database server authentication step of the config wizard, but when I click next nothing happens. No message or anything. I can click next as many times as I like, but the wizard does not progress to the next stage.

Possible to reboot or recycle all the SEPM services?

Are you on a console session? mstsc / console?

    It's already attached

  • 15.  RE: Unexpected server error trying to use SEPM

Already tried restarting services and rebooting the server.

Have tried accessing the SEPM tool directly on the server itself through remote desktop, and also via a browser session remotely.

Looks like the SEPM is not able to communicate. Following is KB article which could help you better.

Also try to check SEPM services if it is working.

From tools can you try running upgrade.bat file?

  • 23.  RE: Unexpected server error trying to use SEPM

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools?

I don't have an upgrade.bat file in there.

  • 24.  RE: Unexpected server error trying to use SEPM

    Apologies James, its here

    1. Run the upgrade wizard located: 'C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\bin\upgrade.bat'

Thanks Rafeeq - that operation ran through fine, however I still can't log in to the management console, same error: unexpected server error.

I'm sorry if you have already tried this,

    1) Add scm.db.datasource=jdbc/metadatabase to the last line, was this done?

    restart sepm service,

    2) Check odbc connection as per this document

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH103990

    3) From SQL point, check if Sem5.db has unlimited growth is enabled.

To which file do I add scm.db.datasource=jdbc/metadatabase ? The upgrade.bat?

I ran through checking the ODBC and it worked fine.

I also tried changing the db to unlimited growth, but this didn't have any effect.

    1. Browse to conf.properties by navigating through

    %Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\etc\conf.properties
    2. Edit Conf.properties
    3. Add scm.db.datasource= jdbc/metadatabase at the last line (There will be a space after the equal sign)
    4. Save the file

It doesn't let me. When I click on submit I keep getting:

I have entered the 'Support Product Version' as 12.

Please give a quick check using the following command check "8443" is in use.

    netstat -an |findstr 8443

Yes its listening twice on 0.0.0.0:8443, once on 127.0.0.1:8443 and once on [::]:8443

    TCP    0.0.0.0:8443           0.0.0.0:0              LISTENING
    TCP    10.1.1.1:49447     10.1.1.1:8443     ESTABLISHED
    TCP    [::]:8443              [::]:0                 LISTENING

if 8443 is established on more ports then there is conflict. It should be like above

Aha!!! Looks like we're finally getting somwhere!

Symantec DLO and SEPM are listening on the same port, 8443, so I've changed the DLO port to something else, and will reboot the server to see what happens....sounds like this is the fix to me. I will post an update soon.

Netstat - ano will give you the executable using the PID, check the corresponding PID in the taskmanager to see who is using it.

    You can select below information

    Product version : Endpoint protection

    Support Product : version 12.1.RU3

Thank you so much Prashant! Your post helped me fix the issue.

FYI for anyone else reading: if you install SEPM and DLO on the same server, you will need to change the port that one of them listens on!!! There should be a Symantec note on this, or it should be mentioned in the documentation (forgive me if it already is).

    Thank you,

    James
