Unhandled Exceptions Related to Agent Uninstalls?

Created: 08 Feb 2013 | 2 comments

I'm in the process of migrating Altiris 6 clients to ITMS 7.1 where I decided it was cleaner to kick off an Altiris 6 uninstall job to remove the Altiris Agent and its subcomponents along with AClient/DAgent before pushing the Symantec Management Agent.  I've recently been seeing a lot of these errors, below, in my Altiris 6 server's alogs and couldn't find any clues in the Symantec KB/forums on its source.  I've disabled my scheduled Altiris 6 agent push so I believe these errors stem from the agent uninstalls.  Just curious what's generating these errors which are somewhat filling up my logs?

Are you sure your Symantec Management Agent (7.x) clients are checking in with the new server, and your 6.x agents are still checking in with your old server?  You didn't install the 7.x agent accidentally on the NS, did you?

Did any of this show up during test or pilot?

I'm in the process of migrating clients over from Altiris 6 to ITMS 7.1 where I've been kicking off an Altiris 6 client uninstall via a Software Delivery job on my Altiris 6 server.  Based upon the number of these errors I'm seeing on my Altiris 6 server compared to when I migrated just the couple hundred PCs in my department awhile ago, I feel these are being generated due to the uninstalls I've been doing.  In terms of ITMS clients, only the 200 I migrated during the pilot are currently active where my logs are clean on my SMP server.

Also, I double checked that my NS indeed isn't running the 7.x agent.  Again, this isn't anything I'm terribly concerned about since my Altiris 6 server will eventually be decommissioned but was just curious why simply uninstalling the Altiris 6 agent appears to be creating all of these errors in my a.logs?
