Uninstall SEP 11 without password

Created: 07 Mar 2008 • Updated: 21 May 2010 | 4 comments
Hi, I want to uninstall the SEP 11 client from a Windows Server 2003 system, but I have forgotten the password for it.. (The one you can configure in SEPM under Client Password Security). I do not have the SEPM server anymore, so I cannot reset the password in that way.

For SAV 10 there was an registry hack, is there also one for SEP? Or can I reset the password locally on the client for SEP?

You may like to call in support and ask for cleanwipe for SEP.

De facto when AV does something, it starts jumping up and down, waving its arms, and shouting...

"Hey!  I found a virus!  Look at me!  I'm soooo goooood!"

just a quick thought (i didn't tested it yet) but what if we have tamper protection set to block so nothing can interfere with SEP and the server does not exist anymore and we have password for uninstallation that we don't know - will cleanwipe work? or maybe we will have to use sylink.xml to connect to some other server and change the policy first? or cleanwipe in emergency/recovery mode?

Hi Richard,

There's an easy way, when password prompt opens, run task manager and END
task called MSIEXEC that runs under your user account (not system). The password
go away and uninstall continues !!

So far this trick works both for SEP and older versions
