What is the proper procedure for uninstalling/reinstalling Mail Security for Exchange 6.0.7 on Exchange 2007?

1. Attempt to remove it in Programs?

2. Uninstall manually if that fails?

I want to avoid problems like those described in the link above where the entire mail server stops functioning.

I see that at 6.0.5 and under, you can have some problems, notably with the entries in the agents.config file and permissions on the Event Viewer App log.

At 6.0.7, I would hope those issues have been resolved?

Thank you in advance.

One more question: should SEP 11.x be uninstalled first or does it matter?

Both programs are installed on the server.

The first step to removing Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) is to uninstall it via Add/Remove Programs (on Windows 2003) or Programs and Features (on Windows 2008).  If you encounter errors during the uninstall process, I would then recommend that you follow the steps listed in the manual removal document.  I have included below, a link to the manual removal document.

Removing Symantec Information Foundation Mail Security 6.0 for Microsoft Exchange from Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 (64-bit ) after Add or Remove Programs does not work

Removal of the SEP product is not necessary when removing SMSMSE.

I would recommend that, if you are removing SMSMSE 6.0.x, that you update to SMSMSE 6.5.7 as that is the most current version available.
