I do not know if I am even in the right Forum.

I am trying to uninstall Symantec AntiVirus which was installed on my son's computer by the college from which he graduated.  It is on a XP Pro system.  I am only familiar with Norton AntiVirus.  I tried A/R Programs but it hung and I had to terminate the uninstall.  It no longer appears in the A/R list.  He can no longer sign into the University web site.  Will the program which removes all Symantec Programs and is designed for the Norton uninstall work?  Or is there a specific tool to remove Symantec Antivirus?  Where do I get it?

You can use the cleanwipe tool, but you probably won't be able to get it from symantec since you don't have a suppor contract. (you can search on the net for cleanwipe)

All Apps are up to date.

bjohn, thanks for the info.  Cleanwipe seems like the way to go since the manual method is tedious.  I will see what I can find.

if u have a fileshare.symantec user name password then u can adownload cleanwipe. You can find a removal tool in the software pakage if it is available with you.
If u don't have username password for fileshare mail me i will send u mine's.

Or you can ask for the password the school uses to uninstall the SAV client. Then uninstall the LiveUpdate.

Ajitjha, thank you for your offer but I found a way to uninstall.

What I did was run the Symantec entry in A/R Programs, selected "Change" and Repaired Symantec Antivirus.  I turned off all features and options in Symantec AntiVirus and rebooted.  I went to A/R Programs and ran Symantec Antivirus and selected "Change" then the remove/uninstall option on the menu.  It completed the uninstall this time.
