  • 1.  Uninstallation Password doesn't work

    Posted May 17, 2013 05:20 AM

I am using DLP 11.6. I have an Endpoint agent installed on Windows 7 64 bit machine . When i installed the agent i set the unistallation password in install_agent64.bat file as "xyz@1234". Now when i try to uninstall the agent and type in the same password (xyz@1234) i get the error "The password entered is incorrect". Even i copy/pasted the password in uninstall_agent64.bat script and ran it with Administrative command prompt i get the same error. This is simply baffling me. Can anyone help.

Please check your installation password text prperly and check whether due to notepad to wordpad/diffrent editor ASCII conversion of characters and spaces etc. Validate providede input and try again.

I have run into this exact issue at a client with the same version of the endpoint agent.  What kind of permissions and gpo are set within the client organization?  Have a look at that and determine what gpo's are in place and maybe that would help you identify why it may not be able to be removed.  I had to go the route of running the manual uninstall provided by Symantec to get an agent uninstalled.

Unless anyone has anything else to offer I would probably call in to Symantec and open a ticket to see what they think.  Keep us posted on the updates.

    open a support ticket.

does clicking on agentinstall.msi and removing the agent helps?

When you installed with this password, did you use the key tool to generate the install password? Basically you use the password to generate a key and use the key as the "password" during install. Then, when you uninstall, you provide the password you used to generate the key. If you didn't do this, you're going to have to manually remove it (ie: it won't be fun and there is registry hacking involved).

    Hi

I'm also facing the same issue with DLP 11.6. I've gone through the link mentioned in above commenet but no luck. Anybody else who could help me or raising a TT is the final solution.

    Hi All,

In my above link there is third party tool called Revo Uninstaller Pro, In that use force uninstaller and insert the installation path of DLP agent as C: \program file x86\manfactures\endpoint agent... this will search and uninstall associated things. As I was facing same issues, it was resolved. Please try again if not succeed raise the Support ticket.

    All,

AMyers is exactly right on this one. The installer is expecting a hash generated by the UninstallPwdKeyGenerator utility that comes in the Agent Tools download. If you enter a plain-text password it treats that as the hash and you won't be able uninstall the agent via the MSI. The DLP Admin Guide describes this process (and usage of that utility) in detail.

For an agent installed this way you will need to manually uninstall it. Please open a ticket with Support for assistance with that process.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
