An unknown exception was thrown - Inventory Solution

Hi,

we just upgraded our Notification server (and all plugins/agents) to 7.5

On some computers (with 7.5 agents deployed) the "gather inventory" task go bad, giving me the error "An unknown exception was thrown".

In Altiris Log Viewer i can notice that in the same moment when i run the "gather inventory" it gives me 3 errors (see attachement)

any ideas?

Hi gmirabella,

Do you know if the Dell Management Console (DMC) 2.0.x (2.0.0 - 2.0.3) component was installed before upgrade the SMP to 7.5 version?

Symantec Installation Manager automatically uninstalls DMC 2.0.x, due to End-of-life of DMC 2.0.3 in ITMS 7.5, however may be necessary to do some additional cleanup tasks to avoid errors like this.
 
To clean up DMC-related items after upgrade to ITMS 7.5, complete the following steps:
  1. Extract the contents of the DMC_CleanUp.zip archive to any directory on the Notification Server.
  2. Run the PFInstaller.exe file with administrative rights.
  3. In the PFInstaller dialog box click Install Files.
  4. Re-run the PFInstaller.exe file with administrative rights once again.
  5. In the PFInstaller dialog box, on the Mode menu click Full.
  6. In the expanded PFInstaller dialog box, click Stop Services. After the stop services task is finished, click Start Services to complete the procedure.

Hi Gmirabella,

My Suggestion would be to uninstall and reinstall the Inventory Solution through Symantec Installation Manager.

*Please make sure you backup any custom inventory reports

I too am seeing this exact same issue in my environment, and we did not have the DCM suite installed on the server. We started fresh with 7.5
