  • 1.  Unlocking Symantec Antivirus config options on client side without server

    Posted Nov 19, 2011 06:06 PM

I've got a laptop that I use offsite, and it no longer connects to the servers at work (not even through VPN).  It's got Symantec Antivirus on it, but I can't make any changes to the settings/config.  Long story short, right now it's got a false positive on a known-good file, and I can't change the options so that it's on the exception list (even that is grayed out/locked).

Right off the bat, I can't uninstall/reinstall, I don't have any serial #'s or licenses other than what is automatically installed from the admins when they set up the machine.

I do have full admin rights on the machine, so I can make registry edits & other changes if needed.

    Any thoughts?

Is it SAV 10.x or SEP 11.x

I would say call your IT Helpdesk and they should help you out in configuring exclusion and they will have the password.

Hi barwick11, my suggestion here is to have your IT reconfigure the SAV or SEP to be unmanaged from their server. Depending on your company IT sec policies, you may either be given the SAV admin password so you can do some policy changes or they would require a reinstallation to make it unmanaged.
