    Hello,

I'm using Ghost 8.2 to create image ghost (disk to image) to Windows 2000 SP4 server.
In the image process I can see a lot of
"unnamed MFT table entry" and the image took more then 2 hour to create and after 2 hours that he got to 28% I cancle it.
    Any help ???

    Hi Idan,

How much data do you have on the Disk that contains the Win2k installation?
What imaging speed are you getting (as reported by Ghost)?

Are you creating the disk image to another disk on the same machine? Or are you using GhostCast server?

    Cheers

    Peter

Hello Peter and thanks for replay.
First I try to image Windows 2000 SP4 server that it's very importent to me and this server is very hard to reinstall.

I try to create image for 80GB disk IDE with 25GB disk use so this should be very small for ghost.

After two hour it create 25% so I break the image since I need the server up and runing back (I thought it will be ~30 minutes to create the image).
I try to create image to USB 2 drive, as I know 40GB image to USB drive took for me less then 40 minutes

    Hi Idan,

Can you try running the image creation operation again with -forceusb switch to see if that helps with the imaging speed?

Also, you mentioned that 40Gb image took 40 minutes to create previously. Just to make sure, were you using the same USB Drive on the same machine?

    Cheers

    Peter

    Hi Peter,
I try to create the same image to LAN share and same problem so I don't think this is USB drive problem.
I try 40GB image took 40 minutes to the same USB drive

    Hi Idan,

'Unnamed MFT entry' is not an error at all, it is only a status message.

We haven't seen any specific imaging issues for 2K servers, so it is probably not because of the OS.  Is there anything specific about the data you have in the machine (i.e. compressed data, very large number of very small files). Image creation time could be affected with the nature of the files you have in the partition, but I do not expect to see this big difference.

One other possibility is the version of USB port. If it is not 2.0, 25GB image could take a long time. I think it comes to about 60 MB/min (hope my math is OK:smileyindifferent: ). This is not unusual with old USB 1.1 ports. Could you check if your USB ports are 2.0? You can copy a large file while in Windows and see how long it takes to copy to USB device (about a 1 GB file).

You had created an image in the same USB device at a much higher speed - was it with this machine or with a one newer than this?

Regarding the performance of network, could it be due to a older DOS network driverr?

One other option you can consider is using WinPE and Ghost32. This will not help much with USB if it is a slower port, could improve the performance when saving in a network share since WinPE probably get newer dirvers.
