    Hello,

Ive been trying to run the update today from 7.7 to 8.0 on our appliance 8240 but it keeps failing.

First I tried through the web interface which hang after about 3 hours (doing nothing) then I rebooted it and manually did "update check" "update download" "update install" and it starts installing after which it suddenly says:

Failed to fetch http://localhost:8080/products/smsapp/prod/i386/RPMS.stable/percsnmp-5.05-3_sms.i386.rpm  Could not connect to localhost:8080 (127.0.0.1). - connect (111 Connection refused)
Failed to fetch http://localhost:8080/products/smsapp/prod/i386/RPMS.stable/glibc-2.3.6-2_sms.i686.rpm  Could not connect to localhost:8080 (127.0.0.1). - connect (111 Connection refused)
E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?
    Fetched 85.0kB in 49s (1703B/s)

    Any idea?

I think i see what the other problem is aswell.... looks like downloading takes ages for the new files. Takes over 5 mins to download a 768Kb file through that download process, while we are on a 50mbit connection.....

    That's strange...

Are you running behind a proxy?

No, its direct. It takes very long to grab these updates while Endpoint Security updates come in very fast. Still downloading atm.

Looks like it keeps hanging at this download:

Need to get 233MB/335MB of archives.
After unpacking 125MB of additional disk space will be used.
    Get:1 http://localhost i386/stable sms-ecperl 5.8.5-18 [12.9MB]

This goes on forever, the others came in right away.

One thing I would say is to make sure you don't have any http resets on your firewall. Sometimes their can be an effective "time out" with the firewall that can reset connections when they are open for an extended period of time.

It's not technically "filtering" or a proxy so it often gets overlooked.

Ian or anyone from Symantec, i tried now for 4 days but it keeps hanging at the sms-smtp-tomcat one and never continues (not even after waiting for like 8 hours). Is there anything I can do to push this through in some other way cause I really wanna upgrade asap for our company.

    Hi Michiel,

Maybe your best bet is to work with Support at this point.

This page should help you out:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/contact_techsupp.jsp?pid=53991

If you try to ring Support you won't be able to get assistance unless you have your Contact ID number.  If you aren't sure what it is you are probably best off contacting Customer Care first and they'll be able to help you figure out what it is.  For Customer Care to help you'll need your license certificate which you must have as you would have needed the serial number on the license certifiate to get your license file you installed to the product.

I finally figured it out.... I had to reboot the spamwall once more, then do the following on the console (not through SSH):

    - update check
    - update download
    - update install

    And it worked :)
