Update lto2 to lto3
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 8 comments
After change lto2 drive to lto3 (and run wizard devices utility).
I hope read old media for restore.
But ..........
- mounting CL6067
- Error bptm(pid=1466434) error requesting media, TpErrno = Requested number of drives are not configured
- restored image SASSAUV_1127016014 - (error requesting media (tpreq)(98)); restore time 00:00:05
....................
New storage units are hcart3 type.
New drives are hcart3 type
New mediass are hcart3 type
Old media are hcart type
Perhaps i should create drive and stu with hcart type ?
Thanks for your responses.

That is exactly correct. You can either recreate the drives and storage unit as hcart or you can specify one drive as hcart and create a storage unit for it that you will use to read and restore the old tapes. It is up to you.
Hi,
Is there any LTO2 drive going to leave in ur Library ?
If yes then you can configure a storage group for that drive and the another storage group for LTO3 drives.
Jeffery - Can HCART3 drive be configured as HCART ?
If yes then how can it read the media of density HCART3?
Yes, hcart3 refers to a logical structure in Netbackup. Any LTO drive (lto, lto2, or lto3) can be labeled as hcart, hcart2, or hcart3. It does not matter unless there are different lto drive densities in the robot. For example you have lto2 and lto3 drives then you would want to create the lto2 drives as hcart and the lto3 drives as hcart2 or as hcart2 and hcart3 (it doesn't matter which two you use as long as they are different) that way the different densities don't get mixed. In this case, since all the drives are lto3 and they can read the older lto tapes all the drive types can be hcart so that the old tapes can be read.
Thank you everybody.
Wizar shared drive configuration modify hcart3 to hcart
Wizar devices configuration > scan all and recreate st.unit
It's ok ... i can read old media and write new medias.

Hi,
Was not knowing this... Thanks
Some more info
1) Can LTO2 LTO3 LTO drives after labeling as hcart be in the same teamed as a same storage Unit.
if yes then my medias even though of hcart3 density or hcart2 density would be accepted by these hcart drives ?
Those 3 drive types should not all be in the same storage unit becuase of the chance of an newer lto tape being loaded in an older model drive and not being able to read it. The only time you would want to mix lto2 and lto3 media is if the older drives had been retired and the newer drives were left. Then you would create the new lto3 drives as the same drive type that the lto2 drives were so you can read and restore from the old tapes. If you have both drive types in the library at the same time then you should have one type set to one hcart density and the other set to the other density so you do not have a situation with newer tapes trying to be used in older drives. Hope this helps.
you should have one type set to one hcart density and the other set to the other density so you do not have a situation with newer tapes trying to be used in older drives.
- This means two storage groups to be created. Right ?
Your posts have always helpfull.
This posts isn't started by me thats why i wont be able to award you points....
Thanks.
That's right in that case you would need 2 storage groups.
