Update sylink.xml to restore communications between Endpoint Protection Manager and clients

  • 1.  Update sylink.xml to restore communications between Endpoint Protection Manager and clients

I'm trying to follow the manual procedure in Method 3 in the link below. There is no Data folder on the client machine under the CurrentVersion folder. Although there is a Config folder. I tried putting the Sylink.xml in that folder, but the procedure failed. Please advise. I want get this to work manually so I can write a script to automate it for the rest of our domain.

    Thanks In Advance,

Did you disable tamper protection first?

On all versions of 12.1 there should be a data folder.

If you do a search of the system, where is sylink.xml showing up?

When I looked, I couldn't find an existing sylink.xml on the client.

Also, someone from Symantec called me, but I couldn't make out thename and he asked me to reply to an email but I'm not sure what email he meant.

If you've opened a support case, they will send you a confirmation email for tracking.

    Hi drreid

refer method 3 you must install SEP client in you SEPM server then go to

    C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\SEPM version\Data\Config

copy three files name SyLink.bak, SyLink.xml and SyLinkEx.bak to you client machine in Windows7 the folder path should be

    C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\endpoint version\Data\Config

you may access client machine via MMC to restart SEP client service

    that is from my experience

Is there a reason you don't use the Client Deployment Wizard? You can use it to distribute sylink.xml files (since 12.1.2), and it's far more convenient:

    Hey Brian,

I tried to open a support case, but got a error regarding not being able to verify my support account, so I'm here instead.

    Hey Sutham,

I have version 12.1.4 SEPM on a Windows 2012 server that has no Data folder under the CurentVersion folder, but does have a Config folder. Also my Windows 7 client has no Data folder under the CurrentVersion folder either, but does have a Config folder. I'm not sure where to get theSylink.bak or SylinkEx.bak files (They aren't mentioned in Method 3). My coworker emailed me the SyLink.xml file.

    Hey Greg12,

I looked at that method and I think it was for a more recent version of SEPM than I have, as there is no common tasks menu in my version as shown in the link.  Also, I recently enabled PowerShell remoting on all my workstations and I want to start using PowerShell scripts to manage as much as possible. This seemed like a simple enough procedure (once I found the steps) to automate without the inconvenience of getting a tool from support and I can use most of the script again for other tasks.

Thanks to you all for your help.

I figured out how to make greg12 suggestion work for my version of SEPM. Basically when I login to SEPM's console I get a Welcome to SEP poup windows with Client Deployment as the 4th choice in the list. I assume that most people check the "Do not show this welcome page" box after the first few times they login.
