Updating 64-bit clients running Symantec AntiVirus 10.1
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 5 comments
I have a network that is not connected to the Internet. I manually copy the xdb file to my Symantec ActiVirus server. This updates the 32-bit clients fine, but does not update the 64-bit clients. How can I update those running WinXP64? All of the computers say old defintions when I look at the console.
Thanks,

Hi Schmidt, Unfortunately xdb
Hi Schmidt,
Unfortunately xdb or vdb can be used to update only 32 bit clients.
You have to run the Liveupdate to update the 64-bit clients, in your case where there is no internet connection you can either update the 64 bit clients by running the intelligent updater (XXXXXXXX-XXX-i64.exe) or the rapid release (symrapidreleasedefsi64.exe)
Please
Please download 20091029-005-i64.exe | | Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition installations on Windows platforms (64-bit) from

Hi
Hello schimidt,
You cannot update the virus defs in the same manner as you apply for 32 bit clients. more more info please visit this link

Copying an .xdb file
Note: This method does not apply for 64-bit versions of the client.
You can update any Symantec AntiVirus server or client by downloading the .xdb file from Symantec. You can also copy an .xdb file from the VPHOME share on any Symantec AntiVirus server. The modified date of the .xdb file matches the date of the virus definitions. When using this method, RTVSCAN.EXE checks for new .xdb files, and then initiates the update process. RTVSCAN.EXE checks for new .xdb files about every 10 minutes by default. Restarting (stopping and then starting) the Symantec AntiVirus Server process can be used to manually initiate the update process if you do not want to wait.

if you are having 64 bit clients
