Updating virus definitions with .JDB files

  • 1.  Updating virus definitions with .JDB files

    Hi guys,

Does the .JDB file only contain virus definitions or does it also contain product updates?

If it does not contain product updates, is there a similar method of updating the SEPMs with the latest product updates using a single file? (I am aware of the LUA 2.x, I am wondering if there's a simpler alternative)

    Thank you,
    Vic

NO you cannot update PTP and NTP with any other alternative than Internet or LUA.
JDB is only for Antivirus and Antispyware definitions.

How about replication, can it send product updates from one SEPM to another?

Yes..replication will send all the updates..
    1.Internet
    2.LUA
    3.Replication ( missed that smiley )

Umm... No. Product Updates refer to different versions (11.0.4202, 11.0.5002, 11.0.6000, etc) and they are not replicated and you certainly cannot update one SEPM with a second SEPM. First off, you can *only* replicate between two SEPMs that have the same version.

Content updates (virus defs, IDS sigs, etc) can be replicated between SEPMs. You can also replicate Client Packages (versions)... but these are only for updating the clients.

Sorry if I'm being a little picky about specific terms... it should be clarified.

Ryan is right ..If you mean by PTP and NTP defs then yes..if you mean by products updates as in version upgrade updates then not exactlly..however if one SEPM gets the latest client package then the other can replicate it..

So the only way of getting Product Updates (referring to different versions [11.0.4202, 11.0.5002, 11.0.6000, etc]) is:

    1. Internet
    2. LUA

Stupid question:  How about minor Product Updates like from 11.0.4202 to 11.0.4203 ?

Many thanks for your great help!!

That can be only done by internet by clients themselves..IF they are allowed to download definitions and product updates from internet. However I have rarely seen them change.

Are you serious?  The SEPM can't update client computers with minor product updates?

    That doesn't sound reasonable.
