Hi.

Haven't been on here for some time.

Is the upgrade worth carrying out? 2500 users to migrate - 2 SEPM servers to change.

How do I know if I'm licenced to go ahead and do this? Isn't the licencing different?

I've seen some posts advising people to stick to 11.7

thanks,

Mark

Hi outrunred, You can either

Hi outrunred,

You can either upgrade to 11.0.7 RU7 or SEP 12.1.

Your upgrade path can be

SEP 11.0.6--> SEP 11.0.7 Or SEP 11.0.6----> SEP 12.1

You will not be able to upgrade to SEP 12.1 ,Once you upgraded to 11.0.7

Please check out below documents for more information on SEP 12.1 upgrade,

Hi,SEP 11.x is paper license

Hi,

SEP 11.x is paper license product, SEP 12.1 is software license product.

If your 11.x license is valid then you might have received upgrade notification from Symantec.

You might have serial number which starts with letter "M", check on fileconnect are you able to see SEP 12.1 product to download.

If you have not received any notification & don't see SEP 12.1 product to download then check with your reseller or contact license department for more details

License department number : 18003420652 ( follow IVR )

I would suggest to upgrade to SEP 12.1 because it's complete new product.

If you are planning to upgrade please take few precautions also to proceed smoothly.

Thanks peeps.

I'm going to look at the licences shortly - they're not tied to this login for some reason...grrrr.

be hinest though, is it worth upgrading? Is it going to be a nightmare.

Are my clients going to run any smoother with this on or is it still going to be dog slow when scanning?

and.....does anyone know if they fixed the stateful packet inspection on the SEP firewall? the drops in the stateful table after 5 minutes?

I think I'm going to do this.... mgiht be good fun :-/

Hi Outrunred,

I would suggest to upgrade when we look at the differences, features.

Scan performance is improved compared to SEP 11.x.

I would like to share few articles with you.

that's great - thanks

that's great - thanks everyone

one quick question....

seeing as the licensing model is different. If I convert my licences to this new version, how does it account for dead assets that come back due to age etc. how does the license go back into the pool.

In the version I'm on it's paper license and we can see how many licenses are in use by looking at our active asset list

Thanks

Try the upgrade/migration on

Try the upgrade/migration on a few test machines to begin with and see what you think. Like mentioned before, if you are on 11.07, you won't be able to upgrade to 12.1 until RU1 comes out later this year.

The licensing is a lot different. You should have Version Upgrade notifications in your email inbox already with the license files. If not, you will just need to locate your SEP 11 serials and upgrade those on the Licensing Portal.

SEP 12.1 is a great product and has a lot more protection and features than SEP 11 but like some people might argue, sometimes it is better to hold off until RU1 of any product release.

Thank you for marking as a solution if you felt this response met your needs!

well I've only got SEP 11.07

well I've only got SEP 11.07 on 2 clients out of 2500....so I'm not worried about that....my concern at the moment is how the licensing works.....But I've got a WebEx with our account manager on tuesday I'm sure he'll clear this up for us

The licensing is really not

The licensing is really not too bad in general. It can get tricky if you are dealing with various end dates and numbers of serials or files. If you have a lot of various license quantities for your aggregate whole of 2500, you might want to consider just importing in the .slf by shift+clicking. This will save you a lot of time, rather than putting in a serial number, one at a time.

Make sure to back up your files, very important!

Also, if you have some licenses that have matching quantity and end dates or you think you have some licenses missing from what you imported in, just try "recover a deleted license" in SEPM > admin > licenses to see if it ended up in there.

Those are all the tips I have for now, but if you have problems, feel free to post here and we'll help you out!

Thank you for marking as a solution if you felt this response met your needs!

I would say you can stick to

I would say you can stick to your current version till few months till then prepare for upgrade, stabilize your current setup.Once SEP 12 RU1 is out you can start migration and rolling out clients.

Migrating to SEP 12 is worth it. Its something that you need as a protection to protect yourself from threats of current landscape and its definitely much better than SEP 11.x

Go for upgrading if you are ready.

I would think you should upgrade to SEP 12.1 if you are ready, especially you felt you had performance issues in your current setup, however, SEP 12.1 has tons of new features introduced, you may need to revisit your existing design and configuration.
