  • 1.  Upgrade to 12.1.2 from 12.1.1

    Posted May 30, 2013 02:56 PM

    Hi,

Was just wondering if I should upgrade to 12.1.2 from 12.1.1, has anybody done that yet and are the benefits good or is it worth the upgrade or should I wait.

    Thanks,

    Joshua Lopez

SEP 12.1.2 has been a fairly stable version thus far. You should be fine moving to it. It's the first version to provide support for Windows 8 and Server 2012.

Go for SEPM 12Ru2 MP1 as it contains more fixes please refer release Note for same.

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH204685.

    and

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/latest-symantec-endpoint-protection-released-sep-121-ru2-mp1

But you need to migrate to RU2 first and then to RU2 MP1.

If you do decide to go to 12.1 RU2 MP1 be aware of a known bug which causes slowness on XP/2003 clients that have the firewall enabled. See here:

Network performance slows on Windows XP with Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 Release Update 2 Maintenance Pack 1 installed

    Article:TECH205486  |  Created: 2013-04-24  |  Updated: 2013-05-03  |  Article URL http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH205741

To work around this problem, use one of the following:

    • Disable the Network Threat Protection firewall on affected computers.
    • Withdraw the Firewall policy in the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) for groups containing affected computers.
    • Migrate affected computers to Windows Vista or higher
    • Revert affected computers to the a previous version of the SEP client

Unless you need to go to 12.1 RU2 MP1 for some reason, I would stick with RU2 for now. But that's just my opinion.

My Advice is choose the SEP 12.1 RU2 for upgradation.

    Hi,

If you are not affected by any fix id's of RU2 then I would suggest to wait till SEP 12.1 RU3.

I don't have any idea about release dates but yes RU3 can be in the pipeline.

However if wanted to perform an upgrade then refer this article:

    Hello,

Yes, you may surely migrate to the SEP 12.1 RU2 from SEP 12.1 RU1. SEP 12.1 RU2 is a stable version.

And since you are planning to upgrade or migrate to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2, please take a look at the latest how-to article created by our very own SEP content council team.

Some of us are going the other way around.  12.1.2 MP1 seems to have issues with firewall network performance so we are going back to 12.1.2  (RU2) without the MP1 until the fix is released in 12.1 RU3.  I verified with our local Symantec technician.

    Ajin,

We know a lot of bugs have been fixed.  Unfortunately, 12.1 RU2 MP1 has introduced a new bug that causes severe network performance inssues.  For example, a file copy that normally would take 3 minutes could take almost 15 minutes or longer with the new version with the firewall turned on.  The fix for this is to either remove the firewall policy, uninstall the firewall component (Teefer issue) or to fall back to 12.1 RU2.

My local Symantec tech said to wait for 12.1 RU3 for a fix. In cases where the security of a device is not too critical, I have removed the firewall.  In most cases I had to uninstall the client and go back to RU2  (2015.2015).
