Upgrade to Altiris Helpdesk 7
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 5 comments
My company currently is running Altiris 6 helpdesk and we are on maintenance so we get Altiris 7 for free. But I was wonder what type of effort would be needed to upgrade? I know the new version has a CMDB so would Symantec services have to be engaged?
Thanks for any help or input.

Short answer yes -- long answer Yes
First take this as a grain of salt as i work for a Symantec Professional Services company...
The short answer is there is a lot has changed in Service Desk 7, need to be running CMDB 7 plus a seperate 64-bit machine to install Service Desk on. At the miminum you might need help configuring things.
Long answer: Are you just looking into Incident Management or Change Management and Problem Management? What other workflows are you going to be using? Are you going to customize the service desk at all?
We are doing a webcast on Service Desk: https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/958953984

Jonathon is there a release date for version 7?
Could be awhile yet
CMDB7 is still in beta, and Servicedesk7 is still in closed beta (according to the altiris beta website). So I don't think it will be anytime soon.....
if we upgrade to version7
if we upgrade to version7 there is no cost for the CMDB correct? I am hearing mixed things on this. Also how would they define how many licenses of CMDB we would get?
