Basically this is what you would be doing

Follow the disaster recovery , get the db and keys

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH160736

    Install SEPM on new OS

    Restore DB

    Restore Keys

then upgrade to SEPM 12.1.5 , thats the latest

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

I would be glad to answer your query.

There are couple of ways to achieve this however if you could provide more info I can suggest possible ways.

    1) Total number of clients

    2) Existing SEPM and SEP client version details

    3) Server operating systems of existing SEPM & proposed new one

    4)  New SEPM machine will have same IP and host name or different?

SEP 12.1 RU5 (12.1.5337.5000) is the latest version, here is the document you can review to migrate SEPM to another machine.

    Hi Chetan,

    1. We have 50 clients
    2. The version of SEPM and client 12.1.4 (12.1.4013.4013)
    3. The OS of old server is windows 2003 x64 and suggest the new one is 2008 standard x64
    4. The new server will have new IP and Host Name.

I consider about the version of SEPM(12.1RU4) in the old server and the newest version of SEPM on the new server .And after move SEPM to new server i will stop and dispose the old server .

I have read your article and consider about this note:

Note: Replication is an option, if you do replication and remove the old server that is the Primary SEPM, in future if you want to do replication you will not be able to do so.

Could you please suggest me the best solution for my case !

Thanks so much for your support!

Are you only moving SEPM or the backend database too?  If only moving SEPM, just create a new server install SEPM on it and make sure to choose "Add an Additional Management Server"

    Hi,

Replication looks better option. In that case as you mentioned once you decommissioned old SEPM you won't be able to perform future replication. If you don't have any replication requirement in near future can go with this option.

But in that case you need to upgrade existing SEPM to the latest version and then install same SEPM version on new machine.

    or

SEP 12.1 RU5 fresh install on brand new server looks good option to you? You can point the clients by replacing sylink.xml or sending new client packages.

Ok, here's my situation, I have SEPM 11.x installed on my older server (Server 2003 SP2 32bit).  I now have SEPM 12.5 and want to install on my new server that is running Server 2008 R2 64 bit.  All my clients are Windows 7.(Under 100 clients)

I want to remove SEPM from the old server and install SEPM 12.5 on the new one and direct all clients to the new server for the upgrade.  Can I simply uninstall SEPM 11 on the old server, install the new version on the new server and push out the upgrade?  I would rather not upgrade the old server to the new version and migrate if it's not necessary.  I only have one policy that I'd need to recreate so exporting the policy isn't a problem.  I've also made sure that my new server meets all the system requirements for SEPM 12.5

I have been reading these posts for a few days and have checked out most of not all the recommended articles and feel totally confused. Also, should this be done on a quiet network or can do this while users are logged on.  I'm the (sole) Network Admin for a school and can't afford to mess this up.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi,

Can I simply uninstall SEPM 11 on the old server, install the new version on the new server and push out the upgrade?

--> I will suggest first perform a fresh install of 12.1 RU5 on the new server and start migrating clients from 11.x to 12.1 (Push out the package)

Once all the clients migrated successfully decomission old server.

Reboot is necesary to migrate clients from 11.x to 12.1. With the release of SEP 12.1 can manage client reboot options.

Hi Chetan,  You helped me immensely. I was able to deploy and upgrade from SEPM 11.x to SEPM 12.5 with almost no problems! Thanks so much for your help!!   I didn't start this thread so I can't mark this "solved" but I wanted to post how much your advice helped.

    Thanks,
