Upgrade to DS 6.9 SP1, AClient not working - What is the process to upgrade clients

We recently upgraded from Deployment Server 6.5 to DS 6.9 SP1 but I am having issues trying to get remote control to work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the AClient and Dagent several times but to no avail. Originally the clients were all AClient when we were on 6.5. When we upgraded to 6.9 I installed Dagent. As I was having issues, I looked in the forums and several people mentioned to only install Dagent on Vista. I figured this may be part of the issue so I attempted to uninstall the Dagent clients and install the most current version of AClient (we are all XP/2003.) However, on the machines I attempted to go back from Dagent to AClient, they do not even show up in my inventory of All Computers. For the ones I did not revert back to AClient yet, I can see them in the inventory but I cannot remote control them. I tried shutting down Windows Firewall on the client computers but I am still getting the same result.  I have also done a fresh install of a 6.9 AClient onto a computer that did not previously have any Altiris client installed on it, and that computer does not show up in the inventory either.

What steps did I miss here? Did I not completely remove the clients? What other steps did people who migrated from 6.5 to 6.9 have to do?

What happens if you use the remote agent installer to push out the aclient?

I ended up with a two fold solution. Part 1 was that the 6.5 services were not completely shutdown, so there was a partial conflict. Part 2 was that I had to manually remove Dagent on the workstations that I had pushed it to. I then pushed AClient out to the workstations via Remote Agent Installer and was able to get everything working at that point. I don't know if you would call it a solution as I only have 50 workstations, but it worked.
