Upgrade from EE to SBE question

    Hello there 

    I need , if possible, an help for a strange situation we have with one of our customer.

    Environment: SEPM Enterprise Edition installed 11.0.6300.803 RU6 MP3 EN with about 100 Clients ( all at the same version).

    All worked fine.

    Now we need to do un upgrade to SPS SBE ( Small Business Edition) 4.0 .

    From File connect i downloaded :

    Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_SBE_12.1._RU1

    Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_SBE_12.1.1_MP1

    So i need to upgrade to the RU1 before and after to the MP1 package.

    I upgraded the SEPM from version 11 to 12.1 RU1 without any problem ( at this stage the SEPM was upgraded to 12.1 with all the clients again to 11 version, and all works).

    When I tries to upgarde the SEPM from RU1 to the MP1 I received the error  " You are not allowed to downgrade fron EE to the SBE of SEP Manager"

    Also if at this point I tried to upload the licence key ( we have 80+25 licence) I receive a same error.

    I know : Your question is : Why you are upgrading from EE 11 to a SBE 4.0 (SEP 12.1) ? . 

    Response: When last year our techical people installed the SEP ( for an error)  installed the EE 11 , but customer bought the SBE 3.0 license.

    Now we have 2 choise:

    1) Request a cross-grade fron SBE to EE 

    2) What happens if we: 

     Disinstalling the SEPM  completely and install from scratch the SEPM SBE 4.0 .

    At thi spoint what happens about all the 110 clients? Will be able to connect agai to the new SEPM SBE?

    And, Will be able the new SEPM ( SBE 4.0)  also to upgrade the clients to the 12.1 level SBE?

    Hi,

    --> As stated it's not possible.

    2) What happens if we:

    --> No, they can't communicate with new SBE manger.

    And, Will be able the new SEPM ( SBE 4.0)  also to upgrade the clients to the 12.1 level SBE?

    --> Not possible.

    Upgrade is possible from SBE to EE. It's not possible to upgrade from Enterprise Edition to Small Business Edition.It's a downgrade.

    You will have to do a fresh install of SBE Manager & SBE clients. 

    You will have to start from scratch.

    A cross grade would not be possible. But the best way to get answers would be to contact the licensing team and ask them to assist you further.

    I believe there in no way you can upgrade/cross grade. You have to remove them completely and re-install them :(

    Hello there

    Many thanks to all for your help.

    I installed from scracth the SBE 4.0 after disinstalled  the old SEPM. All was ok.

    After I created the client package with the option " disinstalling old antivirus"

    After on a PC client I run the SETUP that automatically disinstall the old sep client 11 and after a rebott install the new sep client SBE 12.1.1.

    Just a problem: 

    The new client sep was not able to connect to the SEPM .

    The problem is that the new sep client point to an old group ( taken from the old sep 11 ).

    I solved the problem importing in the new sep client the SYLINK.XML taken from the new SEPM.

    Someone know something about this?

    Yes I know that info but ...

    I'm using la SBE 4.0 and the Small Business Edition don't have the above possibility during the package creation ( in the SBE edition there are less  option available than EE)

    As adviced earlier i would recommend you to uninstall SBE and then install Enterprise edition,

    ...you'll need to look into using either SyLinkDrop (my preferred method) or SyLinkReplacer (available from Symantec Support) in order to repoint your SEP clients as the new SBE SEPM you have installed.

    In your case, SylinkReplacer would certainly help you.

    Contact Symantec Technical Support for Latest Version of SylinkReplacer for SEP 12.1.

     

    To get that tool you will have to call symantec or log a web case.
