Upgrade fail SEPM 12.1 RU1 - SEPM 12.1 RU1 MP1

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello,

I am trying to update SEPM from 12.1 RU1 to 12.1 RU1 MP1.

I followed the instructions i found at:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH187753

the installs starts off just fine, i watch the progress and the messages come accross the screen:

Validating instal

Copy New Files

Update Component Registration

Stopping Services

Remove Files

Moving Files

Waiting for Live update to Finish

Then it rolls back and says "The Wizard was interrupted before Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager could be completly Installed."

Any ideas? Every time i have to upgrade the SEPM, it has worked like a champ! Nothing has changed on it.. Any help would be great!!!!

As pete suggested SEP_Inst.log file can give better idea on same.

It's failing during liveupdate configuration, try to uninstall & reinstall liveupdate.

Which is when we upgrated the last time...

I have rebooted several times and tried to instal 5 or 6 times now... and the SEP_inst.log is still dated 1/19/2012.

It seems you have uploaded the Wrong Log. You have uploaded the SEP_Inst.log, where as you were suppose to upload the SEPM_Inst.log.

Please Upload the SEPM_Inst.log from %temp%

Secondly, what OS are you running on this server? Are you running Windows 2008 / 2008 R2?

If yes, could please turn off the UAC from the server, restart the server.

This issue appears to be related to permissions set for the user’s temp folder.

Try relocating the %tmp% and %temp% variables to C:\Temp resolves the issue:

Right-click My Computer and choose Properties
Choose the Advanced tab
Open Environment Variables
Change the paths for TEMP and TMP to the C:\TEMP
The TEMP directory can also reside on the D: drive, if C: has low capacity
Try to perform the upgrade

Secondly, try the steps provided as well.

1. Go to Control Panel - Add/remove Programs and uninstall liveupdate

2. Remove the liveupdate directories if they exist.

a. C:\program files\symantec\liveupdate or c:\program files (x86)\symantec\liveupdate

b. C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\symantec\liveupdate or C:\Users\All Users\Symantec\LiveUpdate

3. Reboot the computer.

4. Install Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager again.
