Upgrade license to SEPSBE 11

My salesperson just told me that their is not an upgrade license from either SAV CE 10 or SEP 11 to SEPSBE 11.  I am not talking about being able to upgrade to SEPSBE 11, I am talking about the license.  She said that you can only get SEPSBE 11 by paying for the full version license...that there is no upgrade license!  That is why she has been selling to our customers the full SEP Multitier 11 because the upgrade license is cheaper than the full license for SEPSBE 11.  She just sold one of our customers the full SEP 11 for $19 per seat.

Is it true that there is no upgrade license (competive or otherwise) for SEPSBE 11?

Hi drew at NF, I checked in

Hi drew at NF,

I checked in with our support team to confirm, and get an answer to your question.

If you have active maintenance during the time of release then you would be entitled to latest version.

Here's an example, if a customer has Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.x or Symantec EndPoint Protection 11.x they are not able to upgrade to Symantec EndPoint Protection Small Business Edition; two different products. A potential cross-grade, but the customer would need to speak with their sales rep or reseller.

If customer has the SEP SBE as a renewal the serial number when registered will provide a license file; however if this were a new purchase it would not create a license file. The license file is designed to work on SAV SMB 10.1/10.2.

SAV CE and SEP are Volume licenses and do not require a license file to function like SAV SMB. When they changed the license model for SAV SMB to SEP SBE it too would not need a license to function.

With the release of SEP 12.0 the only portion that will require a license file will be the SEP Manager. The SEP Manager is used when the customer wants to have a managed environment.

If you can provide us with a customer number, certificate number or serial number I would be happy to check our database for their entitlement. Send me a PM with the info.

Best,

Eric

This is all rather confusing

You wouldn't have to convice me, but my salesperson who is conviced of what she is convinced.  The next customer that I install the full SEP MultiTier 11 has 2 servers and 7 desktops.  I did setup SEPSBE 12 in a lab and found it to be much more suitable for SMB's than the ful SEP.  I was able to convice the salesperson to sell that to brand new customers when it is released.

Moving to SEP SBE 12.0

Hi drew - let me see if I can simplify

If you are current on SAV 10.x or SEP 11.x   then you can simply request a cross grade to SEP SBE 12.0 (Cost to cross grade is same as renewing on SEP SBE 12.0 so its not extra $).

If you are current on SAV 10.x or SEP 11.x and want a suite of products (endpoint, mail and backup protection) then request a cross grade to Symantec Protection Suite Small Business Edition.
(SPS SBE includes SEP SBE 12.0, SBS for Exchange, Anti-spam and Backup for desktops)

If you are current on Multitier Protection Small Business Edition 11.x then you can request cross grade to Symantec Protection Suite Small Business Edtion (which includes SEP SBE 12.0).

We also have highly competitive pricing for competitive upgrade licensing :)

Hope this helps?

Clarification

What my salesperson told me is that she wouldn't want to cross grade our customers to SEP SBE 12 because they just re-upped their license.  She doesn't want to do it until closer to when their license expires in 12 months.
