  • 1.  upgrade mr4 to mr5 - wg extend protocl service error

    my machines were all working fine under mr4
    now i have upraded them to mr5 they are all displaying

    Event ID: 7000, Source: Service Control Manager - “The Extend WG Protocol Driver service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.”


    this issue has been around for a long time according to the forums

    symantec support say they are aware of this and have told the developers
    a long time ago

    PLEASE CAN IT GET FIXED

    Navigate  to

    For 32-bit computers, the driver is WGX.SYS

    For 64-bit computers, the driver is WGX64.SYS

    Next, search the registry for references to that driver to see if the file path in the registry matches the actual file path.

    C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\ or C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\.  and verfiy if the driver is present

     1. Open Device Manager
    2. Click View > Show hidden devices
    3. Expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers and uninstall the Extend WG Protocol Driver
    4. Reboot the system.
